I ride my mountain bike regularly but haven’t been recording my rides with the app. Strava. This has been because I use the bike for utilitarian purposes such as collecting fire wood. This actually counts as a hobby. I don’t have to collect wood and could instead rely on gas fired central heating or onlyContinue reading “I’m still riding!”
Flower of the Week, 6th February 2024.
The winter has been generally mild, though we’re expecting snow tonight. The snowdrops seem to be quite early and even they were preceeded by the helibores.
Waiting.
I’m waiting for my heart valve to be repaired so that I can ride my bike hard again. In the meantime I need to maintain the best level of fitness I can without straining the heart. I keep my heart rate to around 100 bpm which restricts me to fairly gentle efforts. Fortunately, having convertedContinue reading “Waiting.”
So, where have I been?
I haven’t written in a while, not because I’ve not ridden my mountain bike, but rather because it hasn’t given me the kind of excitement which riding has traditionally done. I’ve used the electrically assisted bike for utilitarian purposes, such has foraging for fire wood (hence solving the energy crisis), in addition to the oddContinue reading “So, where have I been?”
It was good to get out.
This morning I did a road ride of around 8 miles. It was good to get out after many days of over indulgence! Last night was very windy, which had dried the roads. I thought that the trails would remain very muddy after so much recent rain so I stuck to the tarmac, still nervousContinue reading “It was good to get out.”
Healey Nab by E bike.
My first attempt to ride our local hill, Healey Nab, using my E bike didn’t go well. I must have had some water ingress near the controller and it made the motor resist being turned. I had to be rescued. I’ve been reluctant, with the continued wet weather, to try again but after a weekContinue reading “Healey Nab by E bike.”
A road ride after the rain.
We’ve had an awful lot of rain over the past couple of weeks. It’s rather deterred me from proper mountain bike rides, though I have used the bike for utilitarian purposes. Today the skies have cleared but the ground would still be very wet and muddy. I’m not massively confident about the waterproofing of myContinue reading “A road ride after the rain.”
What a beautiful day!
Yesterday, as today, the sky was crystal clear. Of course at this time of year a clear sky means that it’s rather cold, but that’s certainly better than the wet weather which we’ve recently endured. After an off road ride on my Trek mountain bike, which I’ve converted to electrical assistance, I’d suffered from someContinue reading “What a beautiful day!”
Good news, then bad news, then good news.
On Wednesday morning I had a phone call and it was good news. The call was from Royal Preston Hospital, specifically from the Cardiac Catheter Unit. They’d had a cancellation so I could go in at 1 pm where radiation would be injected into my blood. This then allowed X rays to be taken ofContinue reading “Good news, then bad news, then good news.”
How to Convert a Mountain Bike into an E Bike.
Firstly you need to consider what you will use your E bike for. If it’s for commuting then you won’t need a full suspension bike. Front suspension will still be useful, though, because at higher speeds with assistance you’ll find that bumps are far more jarring. If you intend to ride anything other than smoothContinue reading “How to Convert a Mountain Bike into an E Bike.”
