It was -3 this morning and the roads were still icy in the middle of the day. I decided to ride some places which I have barely seen in the last 20 years. They weren’t great! I covered 14 miles mainly on the road. It always surprises me when I ride in woodland areas, whichContinue reading “Icy roads.”
E bikes. Am I too young?
It’s not often that I leave it 5 days between rides but after snow and rain I got a better day on Friday. It was still seriously wet but quite warm compared to earlier in the week. On the way up the trail at the back of Healey Nab I heard a bike coming upContinue reading “E bikes. Am I too young?”
3 laps of Healey Nab.
Yesterday I rode 3 laps of Healey Nab’s red graded route. The whole ride took me 1 hour 20 minutes and was a decent ride considering the conditions. As you can see from the picture I collected plenty of mud but also used all of the suspension travel. We have a jump section of 6Continue reading “3 laps of Healey Nab.”
MTB maintenance.
My Boardman full suspension bike had developed play in the main pivot bearings so I decided to replace them myself. I found that the bearings I bought were exactly the same as a bike I’d owned a few years ago. That was an Orange 5. I could have saved some money! I used a viceContinue reading “MTB maintenance.”
Riding around in circles!
The friends I used to ride with, before they became too old for it, hated to repeat a section of trail. I’ve always preferred to repeat sections so that you can keep improving your performance and that’s what I did today. https://www.strava.com/activities/2080162862/embed/170e432463755b9e16c03d0f71ece38156a6bc21 I loved sliding around the corners and noticed how some corners were becomingContinue reading “Riding around in circles!”
A good Sunday ride.
I rode Healey Nab today because I knew that the man made trail would be rideable. The strong winds over the past couple of days had even dried things out in the more open areas. I covered 9.6 miles in 3 laps with over 1000 feet of climbing. https://www.strava.com/activities/2075741508 https://www.strava.com/activities/2075741508/embed/a79211c02573b717500d68809ad7a70ebe8768f5 I rode 2 laps ofContinue reading “A good Sunday ride.”
A ride in the mist.
The weather today was misty which meant that it was also still. It hasn’t rained significantly for a good few days but at this time of year the trails were never going to dry up. Yesterday I did some servicing on my Boardman bike and found that I needed new rear brake pads which I’veContinue reading “A ride in the mist.”
The future of mountain biking…..
I rode Birkacre today and did 4 laps of a figure of 8 shaped circuit but what does this have to do with the future of mountain biking? I’ll start with a short history lesson about Birkacre. In 1779 a cotton mill had been established here by Richard Arkwright and his associates. It used aContinue reading “The future of mountain biking…..”
Taking a risk.
Mountain biking is intrinsically risky. The chances of injury are something we have to accept to enjoy the sport. Today I rode Rivington which is quite a big area of excellent MTBing. I took a considerable risk on one long downhill despite having thought that I should take it easy and try to learn theContinue reading “Taking a risk.”
First ride of 2019….
Today I met an MTB World Champion!
